The Sears RoadTalker 40 SSB base was a strong and vastly underrated radio. It had a very distinctive transmit audio, best described as “punchy” with lots of compression. New, this CB sold for $299.99 although frequent sales brought the price down to $249.99. This was my first SSB radio. I bought it on sale and used it for about a year during 1978-79. Ran it with a Turner +2B power mic and it sounded really sweet!
Actual model number for this radio is 934.38270700. Sears internal stock number is 613827. Most people simply referred to it as the “RoadTalker Slant Face Sideband.”
