KRRK-FM 103.9 East Grand Forks MN 1983

Prior to the arrival of KYCK, Kay-Double-R-Kay was the lone country outlet in the Grand Forks, North Dakota area. This was an AM/FM simulcast, licensed to neighboring East Grand Forks, Minnesota. The AM station broadcast on 1590 and was featured in the previous exhibit. KRRK-FM had only 3,000 watts on 103.9, resulting in limited coverage. Later, they upgraded to the current facilities of 100,000 watts on 104.3. I had to connect Grandpa’s large TV antenna to receive this, even though I was just 50 miles away from the transmitter.

Reception and recording was accomplished using a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo portable unit. Source tape is a TDK D90.
