CKX-AM 1150 Brandon MB Canada 1983

At the time of this recording, CKX was the dominant station in Western Manitoba. AM radio was very much alive and well across Canada and around the province. FM was still an emerging medium outside of the Winnipeg metropolitan area. When people wanted news, weather, and information, they tuned to 1150 kHz.

This short aircheck was recorded from my grandparents’ house in Michigan, ND. The Pioneer portable AM/FM/cassette unit had great AM sensitivity, even with it’s built-in antenna. A TDK D90 cassette was used to make the recording.
