At the time of this recording, CKWG on 103.1Mhz was the upper edge of FM broadcasting in Winnipeg. AM radio was still very much dominant across the city and the entire province of Manitoba. The format was variety and Helga Ronn was the evening announcer.
This was recorded from my grandparents’ house at Michigan, North Dakota. I used a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette portable stereo unit, connected to a large “fringe” TV antenna. By reorienting Grandpa’s TV antenna to point at Winnipeg instead of Fargo, I was able to make this catch. Source tape is a TDK D90.
