KFGO-FM 101.9 Fargo ND Overnights 1988

KFGO-FM was the new station in Fargo/Moorhead during the summer of 1988.  At that time, “The Mighty 7-90” was the market’s only AM station without an FM sister.  It had long been speculated that KFGO would eventually start a new FM.  Finally, the rumors came true.  KFGO-FM debuted on the newly allocated 101.9 frequency with an Adult Contemporary format and 100,000 watts of power.  It was programmed to compete directly against KLTA “Lite Rock 105”, which had been a proven success over the past few years.

Despite being over 200 miles from the transmitter, I was able to get a good signal from KFGO-FM on this particular overnight.  From my location in Apple Valley, MN, I used a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver, Winegard 10 element FM yagi antenna, Alliance U-100 Tenna Rotor, and Belden ultra low loss RG59 coaxial cable.  Recording of this aircheck was accomplished with a Sears stereo deck and a BASF normal bias 60 minute cassette.
