CKRC-AM 630 Winnipeg MB Canada 1983

This is the only tape I have of CKRC after they “went country.” In a previous life, CKRC was a Top 40 outlet, along with CKY and CFRW. You can hear Roger Kelly doing nights from October, 1978 on one of my earlier aircheck exhibits. But apparently, three Top 40 AMs was one too many for Winnipeg, so CKRC adopted a new identity as “Country Music Radio.” Ironically, Billy Swan’s “I Can Help” was a bigger hit on the pop charts than it was on the country side. Here in the States, “I Can Help” held down #1 for 2 weeks in late 1974. Perhaps it was a bigger country hit in Canada (?)

This was recorded from my grandparents’ house in Michigan, North Dakota. Equipment used was a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette portable stereo unit. Source tape is a TDK D90.
