KCPI-FM 95.3 Albert Lea MN Sign Off 1983

Even with a mere 3,000 watts, KCPI was a fun little CHR!  Despite the low power output, I could hear them easily from my location in Apple Valley, MN.  Local Gospel broadcaster KNOF was also on 95.3, but they signed off at 10PM.  After that, it was no problem hearing KCPI.  Just point my rotor box dead center on ‘S’ and I was good to go!

KCPI also went dark during the overnight hours.  I believe they signed off at 1AM (?)  Their sign off procedure was prerecorded on a cart.  How do I know this?  Listen closely after the music drops off.  You’ll hear a quick telltale “whump whump” at the very end of the audio file.

I received this on my beloved Pioneer SX-3900 receiver.  Also used were a Winegard 10 element FM yagi antenna, Alliance U-100 Tenna Rotor, and Belden ultra low loss RG59 coaxial cable.  A Technics stereo cassette deck and Scotch Dynarange tape were used to make the recording.
