KXIQ-FM 94.1 Bend OR Dennis Shaw 1989

In the late 1980s, Central Oregon’s Hot FM was Q94.  I hosted afternoon drive on this station while Dennis Shaw aka “D. Shaw” or “The D-Man” followed me from 8:00PM-12:00AM.  D. was great for this shift because he had a very wry, somewhat warped sense of humor.  You never knew what he would say or do next.  He was a ski instructor during the day at nearby Mount Bachelor.  When the sun went down, he would drive his 1940s Willys Jeep into town and “play radio” on the market’s only CHR station.  Years later, D. owned and operated a successful restaurant in downtown Bend.

D. Shaw can still be heard today, hosting afternoon drive across town on KTWI Classic Rock 98.3 The Twins. Of all of us who were part of Central Oregon radio in 1989, the only one still on the air in 2019 is the guy who just did it for fun in his spare time. Congratulations, D!

This recording was made from Madras, Oregon, using a Realistic AM/FM/CD/cassette portable stereo with built-in telescoping antenna.  A Memorex dBS 90 minute tape captured this aircheck for us to enjoy, 30 years later!
