WIXX-FM 101.1 Green Bay WI Automated 1983

“At 101”, WIXX is a heritage CHR in the home of the Green Bay Packers. They have been playin’ the hits for at least 40 years! I’m guessing this station may have been automated, at least during the overnight hours (?)

I was able to hear WIXX early on a Sunday morning.  An ice storm at my location in Apple Valley, Minnesota made reception possible by opening up the band a bit.  Unfortunately, all I have is this short aircheck clip.

As an interesting aside, Wisconsin had three completely separate stations with similar call letters during this time: Eau Claire’s WAXX, Green Bay’s WIXX, plus WAKX in Duluth/Superior!

To capture this, I used a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver, Winegard 10 element FM yagi antenna, Alliance rotor, Belden RG59 ultra low loss coaxial cable, Technics stereo cassette deck, and TDK SA90 tape.
