Here’s a young Kevin Wagner, getting his start doing Saturday nights in Wichita. 1983 was the heyday of KEYN: an absolute ratings and revenue monster during the early and mid 1980s. As for Kevin, he worked his way up quite nicely in the industry. Today, he is Director of Operations for Eagle Communications.
This aircheck was recorded from a motel room in Lawrence, Kansas. Your humble author was just 19 years old, headed from Minnesota to my first radio job in Colorado. Lawrence was strategically chosen as my overnight stopping point so that I could aircheck both Kansas City and Topeka. I wasn’t expecting to hear a Wichita FM, but atmospheric conditions were good and my Pioneer was a sensitive receiver. Of course, the FM band was much less crowded in those days.
Equipment used was a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo portable unit with built-in telescoping antenna. Source tape is a TDK D90.
