WUEC is the student-run radio station at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. At the time I recorded this, I was attending Brown Institute for broadcasting. After listening to these guys a few times, I was wishing I had gone to UWEC instead. First, because they had an actual on-air station, which we did NOT have at Brown. Also because I was 18 at the time and the legal drinking age was 18 in Wisconsin. Minnesota was 19. With my baby face, I was never able to get served underage!
Despite having an output power of just 740 watts, WUEC broadcast from a tall tower. This plus my receiver/antenna combination allowed me to pull in the signal from just south of Minneapolis, approximately 100 miles distant from their transmitter. A Pioneer SX-3900 and Winegard 10-element FM yagi was used. The recording was made using a Technics stereo cassette deck and Scotch Dynarange 90 tape. Unfortunately, the original source cassette was accidentally destroyed several years ago. This aircheck was digitized from a second generation dub onto TDK SA90 tape.
