Jon Byrd aka “The Byrdman” held down nights on Mid-Florida’s Z93 during the early 1990s. Although based in Ocala, WMMZ had a huge coverage footprint which provided a city-grade signal into Gainesville. This was very important for a CHR since Gainesville is home to the University of Florida Gators! WMMZ’s secondary coverage extended north to the Georgia state line, east to Daytona Beach, south to Orlando, and west out into the Gulf of Mexico! The current occupant of this frequency is WOGK “K-Country 93.7.” Even though their coverage is now encroached on by new stations and translators, it’s still one of the biggest FM signals in the state of Florida.
This was recorded from my residence just south of Ocala. I used a Realistic AM/FM/CD/cassette portable stereo unit with Sony LN90 tape.
