In the spring of 1991, I packed my beat up 1978 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight and made the cross country move from Redmond, Oregon to Ocala, Florida. I spent the next few years working for 3 of the local stations: WTRS “102 Country”, WMFQ “Q-Lite 92.9”, and finally WOGK “K-Country 93.7.” Being the radio geek that I am, I regularly scanned the dial and airchecked my competitors!
The KTK Morning Show has always been at or near the top of the local radio ratings. It’s original lineup consisted of Storm Roberts, Nick Allen, and Chris Dowd. John Boyer did news. Mike O’ Neil followed the morning show at 10:00AM. All 5 are heard on this tape which was recorded about a week before Christmas, 1991.
The original recording was made from my residence, approximately 6 miles south of Ocala on SR 475, using a Realistic AM/FM/CD/Cassette portable stereo “boombox” and Sony LN90 tape. An outdoor TV antenna was oriented towards WKTK’s transmitter near Morriston, FL for optimum reception.
