In the mid-1980s, Rex Allen voiced a series of promotional announcements for Kansas tourism. It was dubbed the “Ah, Kansas!” campaign, highlighting scenic and historic points of interest throughout the state. This promotion became very popular and is still remembered by many today.
Kansas tourism being promoted on a Colorado radio station? Sure, when the station is located only 13 miles from the Kansas state line. Roughly 40% of KNAB’s AM and FM signal contours fell across the Sunflower state.
This was recorded from my apartment using a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver and Technics stereo cassette deck. A simple wire dipole antenna was more than adequate since our tower was less than 2 miles away. Source tape is a TDK D90.
