Jim Olson went back down to his basement archives and found another RARE gem to share with us! Here is KKLS, “The Music Connection” for the Black Hills. Lots of music, energy, jingles, and fun can be heard on this aircheck. As you will hear, KKLS was using the WLS “Musicradio” identifier and jingle package. In 1977, this was far from a bad thing! Jim writes:
“Here is my only aircheck from KKLS in Rapid City – ON MY FIRST DAY ON THE AIR! I had some screwups since their control board buttons went to the LEFT to turn on rather than the RIGHT as I had been accustomed to. Anyway, got to work there with PD named CJ Stone, whom I later heard on the satellite service called “Oldies Radio.” Also worked with Mick Kjerr (sp?) who is now the morning weather guy on KVLY-TV in Fargo, ND. My manager was Keith Tilkens, a guy I really loved working for. By the way, I am now the news director at KXMC-TV in Minot, ND where I’ve worked since 1986. Enjoy your website, which I just discovered yesterday!”
Jim, we love these airchecks from the golden age of AM Top 40 radio. Keep ’em coming!
