CKJS is another of Winnipeg’s big-signalled AMs that covers a wide swath of northeastern North Dakota. The directional signal has tight nulls east and west to protect stations on 800Khz in Moose Jaw and Thunder Bay. Coverage to the south is unaffected, however.
In 1983, CKJS was what I would call Adult Contemporary with a splash of Variety. You’ll hear them playing Irene Cara’s “Flashdance, What a Feeling” which was a current A/C hit at the time. But then, a promo for a specialty show entitled “Learn About Japan” which aired on Monday evenings. Not sure who the announcer is here. If you know, please clue me in.
This was recorded from my grandparents’ house in Michigan, North Dakota. Equipment used was a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette stereo portable unit. Source tape is a TDK D90.
