Scott Campbell and Elise Michaels were the morning duo on Central Oregon’s Fresh FM, Clear 107. Also known as “The Rhythm of the Cascades” when they’d play an occasional New Age/Jazz track. KLRR was a station ahead of it’s time: it would be several more years before the Smooth Jazz format was created and cloned in markets across the U.S.
This aircheck was recorded shortly before Scott Campbell’s tragic death. It is believed to be one of the last examples of his work in existence. Scott & Elise spent many years on Central Oregon radio: first on KXIQ “Q94” across town, then on KLRR Clear 107.
Also included is a commercial for Robberson Ford, voiced by Rick Evans. Rick has also worked for several local stations over the years. These commericals were instantly recognizable, due to Rick’s voice and because Top 40 hits of the 1950s and early 60s were used as background music. At the time of this recording, Rick was co-hosting mornings on Bend’s KICE “FM 100”, as well as performing live across Central Oregon as “Biff Harley.”
I recorded this from my residence in north Bend using a Realistic AM/FM/CD/cassette portable stereo and Memorex dBS 90 tape. Audio quality is excellent on this one. It’s even in stereo!
