Everyone knows that Barry Manilow had many hit records during the 1970s. What many people do not know is that Barry Manilow also wrote and performed commercial jingles for Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald’s, Pepsi Cola, plus many other national brands. Here, Barry sings the jingle which he wrote for Stridex medicated acne pads.
At the time this aircheck was recorded, Barry Manilow’s first hit record Mandy was climbing the charts. On January 18, 1975, it would become the #1 song in the country. Since Barry would soon have to concentrate on a pop music career, this is one of the last jingles that he performed. It’s heard here as part of Brother Bob Hall’s midday show on WYOO-FM (“U100”) in the Twin Cities. You can hear the U100 jingle coming out of the commercial as Bob segues back into music.
