KCGN is a Christian radio station with a massive signal. Their legal ID encompassed both Ortonville, Minnesota and Milbank, South Dakota. At 1,001 feet above average terrain, it can be heard from just south of Fargo to just north of Sioux Falls. That’s not counting the extended coverage via translators in Aberdeen, Sioux Falls, Ellendale, North Dakota, and Russell, Minnesota.
This audio clip was captured during a routine dial scan in August, 1988. By putting the “side” of my antenna towards KDWB-101.3, I was usually able to hear it pretty well from Apple Valley, MN. The antenna was a Winegard 10 element FM yagi, connected to a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver. An Alliance U-100 Tenna Rotor, and Belden RG59 ultra low loss coaxial cable rounded out my FM DX reception system. To preserve it on tape, I used a Sears stereo deck and a BASF 60 minute normal bias cassette.
