KHEY 690 was country before country was cool! There was a 15 minute “window” each day when I could hear this station from my location in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Local station KTCR (also on 690) would sign off at sunset. Since KHEY was further west, they had a later time when they would change from their daytime to their more restrictive nighttime directional pattern. The nighttime pattern pointed away from me. But for a quarter hour each afternoon, I could listen and aircheck ’em!
Reception was made using a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver with a horizontal long wire antenna. It was recorded onto a Technics stereo cassette deck with TDK D90 tape.
