This aircheck also appears as part of my ‘Sioux Falls Dial Scan’ compilation. I wanted to include it individually as well. Don Berry was the evening jock on KPAT as 1982 came to a close. This was KSOO’s FM sister station, back when FCC rules allowed common ownership of only one AM and one FM per market. Their format was Adult Contemporary, competing directly against KELO-AM. At this time, AM radio was still dominant in Sioux Falls with KSOO, KELO, KXRB, KKRC, and WNAX out of Yankton.
I was able to receive 97 KPAT pretty well on most days from my location in Apple Valley, MN. There is a bit of adjacent channel bleed from local KTCR-97.1. However, my Winegard 10 element FM yagi did a nice job of nulling out most of the interference. It was connected to a Pioneer SX-3900 receiver with Belden RG59 ultra low loss coaxial cable. An Alliance U-100 Tenna Rotor spun it around as needed. The recording was made to a Technics stereo cassette deck with Scotch Dynarange 90 tape.
