In the early 1990s, 102 Proud Country WTRS was the big Country FM in North Central Florida. This was the first station I worked for, after making the decision to pack up my 1978 Oldsmobile and move to Florida from Oregon. I picked Ocala as the place I wanted to settle, then pestered every program director and general manager in town for a job. A few weeks later WTRS hired me to do 7PM-Midnight.
Jeff Kormendy aka “Jeff Daniels” was our morning host. He had a good voice and lots of potential. At WTRS, we were basically doing “New Country” a year before the format became recognized and cloned in markets all over the U.S. Lots of current, upbeat music with loads of personality and phones. It was a fun place to work!
This aircheck was made from my residence, 6 miles south of Ocala. I used a Realistic AM/FM/CD/Cassette portable stereo and Sony LN90 tape. No outdoor antenna was required.
